In 1996, Donna Skeen started a home health care agency after a simple requestfrom her mother: She wished to remain in her home during her later years. She didnot want to go to a nursing home. She wanted to stay with her family, and that isprecisely what she was able to do. This became the core value of providing in-home care within our communities. Every day in the U.S., 10,000 people turn 65, representing over 20 percent of the population by 2050.
Additionally, roughly 13% of the United States population is disabled and liveswithin our communities. Therefore, a broad and supportive system must be createdfor these individuals. This is where the Donna L. Skeen Senior Expo idea was born.
The Expo aims to bring community members and service providers together tocreate a network of support for the aged and disabled population of West Virginiaand the surrounding areas. These vendors can include anyone from in-home careproviders to disabled-centered home renovation, providers of medical alert systems, and many more!
